Postdoctoral fellow
McGill University, Quebec, Canada
Dr. Ahlem Meziadi is a postdoctoral fellow at McGill University in the department of Biomedical Engineering. She earned her PhD in protein-polymer conjugation and protein-protein interactions from the Institut National de la Recherche Scientifique in 2023. During her doctoral research, Dr. Meziadi iinvistigated the mechanisms of depletion interactions in PEGylation due to excluded volume effects, which historically led to poor efficiency in protein modification. She developed innovative methods to improve PEGylation efficiency through the adjustment of solvent parameters and the novel use of transient heating with microwave irradiation. Currently, Dr. Meziadi is applying her expertise to enhance the longevity and functionality of islet transplantation for Type 1 Diabetes treatment, focusing on localized immunomodulation strategies to circumvent immune responses and improve therapeutic outcomes.
