ADVANCES IN CONTROLLED TRANSDERMAL DELIVERY OF ANTITUBERCULAR DRUGS

The management of tuberculosis, including its cutaneous manifestation, entails a prolonged treatment regimen. To maintain a consistent drug concentration in the bloodstream, transdermal administration is recommended. For this purpose, the antitubercular agents should be formulated within controlled-release systems ensuring patient-friendly application. To implement this concept, films consisting of emulsion hydrophilic-hydrophobic polymers, wherein anti-tuberculosis compounds are integrated into thermotropic liquid crystals (LCs), were produced.
The engineered polymer-dispersed films comprising thermoresponsive LCs loaded with synthesized anti-tuberculosis agents prove to be an effective and patient-friendly formulation for addressing tuberculosis including its cutaneous form.
