Title: Sonosensitization and drug delivery combined with gold nanoparticles for cancer treatment

Description: The combination of physical and chemical treatments for cancer therapy has received large interest. The sonosensitizing properties of gold nanoparticles (GNPs) have been demonstrated upon ultrasound (US) irradiation as a result of reactive oxygen species (ROS) production (Brazzale et al. 2016). We aim here to develop folate-targeted GNPs coated with a pH-releasable Doxorubicin prodrug (proDoxo) to combine the treatment with US and chemotherapy. Here, GNPs were engineered to exploit active targeting, drug delivery, and sonosensitizing properties, providing a promising platform for enhanced site-specificity in cancer therapy.
