Lucas Attia is a PhD candidate advised by Patrick S. Doyle in the Department of Chemical Engineering at MIT. His thesis focuses on developing a novel 'bottom-up' nanocrystallization process for the formulation of lipophilic small molecules. This approach templates nanoparticles in hydrogels scaffolds from nanoemulsion droplet precursors. Lucas is passionate about integrating modeling and experiments to accelerate formulation development, and uses his expertise in molecular modeling and machine learning to gain mechanistic insights and inform experiments. He earned his BS in chemical engineering from the University of Delaware in 2021, where his research focused on using metal-organic frameworks as carriers for pulmonary drug delivery.
