Cristina Fornaguera is specialized in the design of (nano)formulations for the controlled delivery of actives to treat unmet medical needs. Through her PhD, she started working with the formulation of therapeutic polymeric nano-emulsions and nanoparticles (NP), aimed to cross the blood-brain barrier and achieve a controlled delivery. Following, through an industrial postdoc, she mastered on polymeric nanoparticles to cross other physiological barriers, such as the lung mucosa. After, she started her own group currrently with more than 12 PhD students, 3 postdocs, 3 technicians, 2 senior researchers, and eventual undergraduate and visiting researchers. The focus of her research is the design of nucleic acid-based therapeutics, composed of polymeric and/or lipid formulations, to tackle current unmet medical needs that would benefit for the time and spatial control of the biologicals delivery.
