Mariana Colaço is a PhD student in Pharmaceutical Sciences at the Faculty of Pharmacy, University of Coimbra, Portugal. Her research focuses on developing innovative cationic polymer-DNA complexes and carbohydrate-functionalized polymeric nanoparticles for nasal immunization against SARS-CoV-2, with interests extending across vaccine adjuvants, nanomaterials, and immunology. Additionally, she has gathered great knowledge producing nanoparticles through different production methodologies, characterizing them physicochemically, testing their biological activity using numerous in vitro assays with primary cells and cell lines and lastly, evaluating their performance in vivo (mice vaccination studies).
