Associate Principal Scientist
AstraZeneca R&D, Vastra Gotaland, Sweden
Elisa Lázaro-Ibáñez, Ph.D., obtained her doctorate in Biopharmacy from the University of Helsinki in 2016. She then joined Prof. Lötvall's lab at the Sahlgrenska Academy in Gothenburg, where she investigated the role of extracellular vesicles (EVs) as drug delivery systems for nucleic acids and proteins, as well as their relevance in biomarker discovery.
In 2017, Elisa joined AstraZeneca first as a postdoctoral researcher, focusing on engineered EVs for CRISPR delivery and transitioned later to Advanced Drug Delivery in Pharmaceutical Sciences, where she currently serves as an Associate Principal Scientist. In this role, she leads drug projects and platform activities using lipid nanoparticles (LNPs) for mRNA and CRISPR delivery.
With over a decade of experience, Elisa has evaluated non-viral delivery systems for nucleic acid and protein delivery. Her research has resulted in more than 25 papers, amassing over 10,800 citations. Currently, Elisa leads the AstraZeneca EV team while providing mentorship to several Postdocs and scientist in the field.
