Thomas Birngruber is deputy director and research group leader at Joanneum Research HEALTH in Austria. He and his team work in the field of translational research and tissue-specific monitoring with a focus on skin, adipose tissue and brain. A core technology in his portfolio is open-flow microperfusion (OFM), a sampling technique that enables the monitoring of substance concentrations in target tissue. OFM enables a very precise view of the interaction of substances with different tissues.
Thomas Birngruber and his team offer and develop technologies that make it possible to reduce the risk in drug development and predict clinical efficacy at an early stage. Joanneum Health has been working with the US FDA for 10 years to develop innovative systems that enable detailed monitoring of pharmacokinetics at the target tissue level.
